PR16 – Levada Fajã do Rodrigues

This levada has many tunnels and waterfalls and is not that long. Be careful not to fall in the levada in a tunnel like Rembrandt did 😉

“Paths are slippery and tunnels not so suitable for kids.”

🥾 Solo / Couple Score: 7.5 / 10

“Nice levada to explore some tunnels”

What to Expect on the Trail

This levada has three tunnels. The last one is by far the longest (1km), and after finishing that you can almost return and ‘enjoy’ the tunnel again. We recommend skipping the last one and return before entering.

Safety

As there are many waterfalls the paths can get slippery. In the tunnel you need a headlamp and if you’re a tall person it’s maybe better to walk though the water.

Parking & Logistics

There’s a big parking lot with plenty of space. From the parking lot it’s about 10 minutes walking to the start. Book your slot via this link.

What to Pack for This Hike

Solid hiking boots, clothing in layers, a head lamp is crucial for the tunnels, a water bottle and a backpack with snacks / food. Check out our Ultimate Madeira Packing List.
