PR12 – Caminho Real da Encumeada

This hike takes you through the mountains around Curral de Freiras, the ‘Nuns valley’. According to the local myth nuns fled in the 16th century to this valley to escape from pirates.

What to Expect on the Trail

Expect great views over the Nuns Valley. Unfortunately when we hiked it was clouded, so we couldn’t see anything. But still the trail was exciting.

Safety

Paths are wide and safe. When we hikes at a certain moment the path was closed because of a landslide. Always good to check before via the official website the status of the official PR trails.

At the start of the trail there’s a viewpoint and small parking lot. Book your slot here.

What to Pack for This Hike
